Who we are looking for?
Babcock is rapidly establishing itself as an international Naval ship designer and builder. We have built on the success of the UK MoD Type 31 Frigate, and are pursuing opportunities for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As well as supporting frigate exports, the engineering team is actively working on other complex shipbuilding programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to aircraft carriers, alongside our established in service support contracts for UK and overseas customers.
As a Systems Engineering Manager, you will use your experience and technical ability to lead the development of the plans, processes, and technical outputs on any of our projects, adding value and exceeding customer expectations. You will be accountable for the overall delivery of all project systems engineering, requirements and acceptance activity; co-ordinating and providing the focus for all engineering requirements and acceptance activities as well as Produce and own Work Package Descriptions, Plans, Schedules and Estimates for requirements and acceptance.
What will you be doing?
• Be accountable for the overall delivery of all project requirements and acceptance activity; co-ordinating and providing the focus for all engineering requirements and acceptance activities.
• Responsible for ensuring requirements and acceptance activity is in accordance with the Business Management System and other project specific management plans.
• Produce and own Work Package Descriptions, Plans, Schedules and Estimates for requirements and acceptance.
• Develop and establish the requirements management and acceptance strategy for the development and build of the system to address risk early, achieve the best cost, and schedule result.
• Develop and establish the requirements and acceptance criteria using elicitation, modelling and analysis techniques. Manage and maintain these requirements and acceptance criteria through robustly developed and implemented project processes and procedures.
• Forecast requirements and acceptance resource, and resolve resource conflicts.
• Own the requirements and acceptance technical risks and ensure their mitigation.
The experience you’ll bring
• You will have significant experience of leading systems engineering activities in complex enterprises, ideally with a defence background, typically at Systems Engineering Manager level.
• You will be a highly technical and well-qualified Systems Engineer having developed excellent analytical skills, with a pragmatic approach to solving highly complex problems using structured model-based methodology.
• You will be able to utilise team leader or team player skills as appropriate for each project and have a strong on time delivery focus being very commercially aware.
• You will be an excellent communicator of ideas and concepts, in writing, in presentations, in meetings and in one-to-one conversations.
• You will be IT competent with strong organisational skills. Skilled in using development and management tools (e.g. DOORS, Enterprise Architect) and use of PC based office tools (MS Office, Project, Visio)
• You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
