Senior Simulation Systems Engineer

The Senior Simulation Systems Engineer will be the first point of contact for providing dedicated Simulation Systems Engineering expertise for the Selborne Project as well as other simulation projects. 

The role will require systems / software design, integration, and testing during the design, installation, and operation phases of the Selborne project.  

The Selborne Training System consists of a number of Commercial Off-the-Shelf simulation software packages and associated plugins that are combined with a series of visual display systems and some handheld peripherals to create an immersive simulation training environment.  

The Senior Simulation Systems Engineer will be required to provide support to the system design and integration of all software in the system covering desktop assets, visual display system, simulation software / engine, simulation hardware, peripheral devices and servers. They will predominantly be based within the Selborne Development Site at Bristol with essential travel to additional sites within the UK as and when required.  

The Senior Simulation Systems Engineer will be able to identify and characterise any system failure, extracting and providing adequate debug data to the wider software / system engineering team for collective resolution.  

Additional specialist support to a wide variety of exciting and challenging simulation projects will also be required. 

 

  1. Role Responsibilities

To plan and conduct systems engineering tasks requiring judgement in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of system / simulation software designs or design techniques to meet the agreed requirements.

Be part of a team doing a major part of the simulation system engineering and integration work on a large project and to co-ordinate allocated resources.

To contribute to project meetings and to deliver detailed technical and progress reports. 

  1.  

To work closely with the Chief Systems / Software Engineer and Simulation Technical Manager and other team members to plan and co-ordinate the project. 

  1.  

To keep up to date with the state of the art in the chosen area by attending seminars and studying the technical literature. 

  1.  

To review, coach and train technical staff to maintain engineering standards and expertise at a high level. 

  1.  

To support the smooth running of the various IT systems within the Selborne installation. 

  1.  

To proactively seek out any areas for improvement and make recommendations. 

  1.  

To respond to technical problems in a timely manner and escalate when required. 

  1.  

To recommend, test and perform the installation of upgrades and patches to supported applications and operating systems. 

  1.  

To prepare and maintain appropriate documentation of tasks associated with the operation of the Selborne IT System.

To liaise with support contract suppliers regarding hardware / software / integration problems.

To update any relevant documentation associated with system changes

To ensure the company meets all of its IT security obligations
