Network Engineer

Location -  Bristol 

 

Reports to -  IT Manager 

 

Direct Reports -  None 

 

Security Clearance requirements: - SC (DV Capable)/UK National 

 

 

You will work as part of a new IT Service Desk team in a hands-on and varied role - from triage and diagnosis of issues on the service desk to the technical administration and support of operational systems.  

 

Key roles include focusing on day-to-day operations of the network environment. Engage in the operation of the network ensuring the processes and security are fit for purpose, with the right level of resilience, cost effectiveness, and are in line with good industry practice.  

 

A small team within a rapidly growing IT environment and exposure to lots of exciting projects. You will need to be able manage multiple tasks and priorities.  

 

We are looking for a technically strong and proactive network engineer that can demonstrate logical thinking, with the ability to support throughout all levels of the business whilst contributing to wider organisational projects. 

 

Due to the nature of the infrastructure involved, the role will be predominantly office based. Remote working will be possible depending on staff availability and operational demand. The role will be based in Bristol across two sites with occasional travel to London. 

 

Responsibilities include:  

 

• Network architecture design, implementation and maintenance  

• Network security design and implementation including cloud connectivity and access 

• Monitoring the operational health of the network infrastructure 

• Diagnosis and resolution of operational issues 

• Creating and maintaining technical documentation, diagrams and knowledge base 

• Any additional tasks to ensure the success of the role and support to the Business Unit within ESUK.  

 

Current Projects include: 

• Replacement of existing firewalls and implementation of new SD-WAN & VPN infrastructure 

• Replacement of switches 

• Network design and implementation of new build facility 

• Implementing network monitoring controls

• Fortinet/HP/Aruba/ /Cisco Networking 

• Fortinet security portfolio including Forti Manager & EMS 

• SD-WAN, VLANs, routing, firewalls, NPS, VOIP, IPSec VPN 

• Network security 

• Hybrid computing/Office 365/Azure 

• Working within a Service Desk or Technical Support environment 

• Virtualisation/Hyperconverged Infrastructure  - VMWare/Nutanix 

• Knowledge of networking security systems 

• ManageEngine or other ITSM tools 

• Working within a security/defence industry 

• SD-WAN knowledge/concepts 

• Confident at being hands-on in data centre
