Java Software Engineer - Space

Position Description:

This is an excellent opportunity to join one of our exciting new Space projects. You will be working as part of skilled and committed team using an agile approach (Scrum, SAFe & DevOps) to solve a number of interesting problems for our clients using leading edge technologies such as big data (Cassandra with PostgreSQL), advanced analytics, machine learning (Spark) and orbital dynamics libraries.

All successful applicants must hold, or be eligible & willing to obtain, UK SC clearance with the view to progressing to higher level clearance if required.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

You should be capable of taking features from concept through the whole software development and test life-cycle. You should have experience in developing quality software to commercial standards. You should be able to give material feedback to junior developers and be open to receiving constructive feedback on your own work.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

You should have deep expertise within at least one programming environment (preferably Java or Python) and basic proficiency in at least one additional programming environment. Excellent team working and communication skills are essential. The requirements, the technologies and the problems we will be solving can change at short notice. We need developers who are pragmatic and delivery focused, who can adapt as situations evolve, who enjoy new experiences and always want to learn new things. A background in physics, mathematics, astrophysics or other STEM discipline is desirable but not essential.
