Head of Systems Engineering

Brief summary of role: 

 

The Head of Systems Engineering will support the Engineering Director to deliver an innovative, technology led and efficient (value for money) function that supports all business winning and delivery needs.   

Location - Bristol  

 

Reports to - Engineering Director  

 

Direct Reports - none at present, dotted lines to the engineering teams within each project. 

 

Security Clearance requirements:  

• SC  

• British National  

• No Dual Nationalities (ITAR Constraint)  

Responsibilities include: -   

• Producing and maintaining all Systems Engineering & Integration processes and supporting documentation. 

• Ensuring the processes are followed and evidence is documented to support any necessary audits – internal, external and accreditation. This includes configuration control and change management of engineering documentation. 

• Identification of Opportunities for Improvement (OFI) and recommending solutions for incorporation in to both the engineering processes and wider business processes. 

• Provision of training (either in-house or through external providers) to ensure all engineers remain current and competent in their roles. 

• Implementation and maintenance of all related toolsets e.g. IBM ELM/DOORS/Rhapsody. 

• Management of Integration Labs – elicitation of project requirements, recommending solutions, working with the facilities team to implement them and support during delivery. 

 

To achieve success in this role, you'll need a range of the following skills: 

 

• Previous experience as a Systems Engineering Manager (or deputy) on large programmes for defence 

• Systems engineering & integration of complex systems inc software 

• Competent in problem solving and analytical techniques in a methodical and logical manner to ensure that products meet their technical requirements – quality and performance. 

• Engineering governance and control of configuration items (documentation and products through the release process) 

• Chairing Systems Engineering Design Reviews 

• Knowledge and experience in software development 

• Knowledge and experience in Agile/SCRUM 

• Software Tools - MS Office and full IBM ELM Suite comprising Rhapsody, DOORs, RQM & RTC 

• ISO Standards - ISO15288 (Systems), ISO25010 (Architecture)  

• Defence Standards / JSPs (UK) – JSPs 906, 912 and Def Stans 00-55/00-56 (Safety), 00-250/1 (HFI), 00-35 (Environmental), 59-411 (EMC), 00-040/41/42/44 (Reliability)
