The Role
As a Deputy Chief Engineer, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary, providing strategic technical leadership & governance across UK defence business for its Digital Transformation-related programmes and delivery teams. You will coordinate digital engineering solution development across the air business initially and expand activities within our Maritime and Land business to develop QinetiQ’s future strategy for digital engineering.
Day-to-day, you will:
- Work with the programmes, business development and technical teams, to set the policy for digital engineering related business and deliver against challenging objectives in line with the Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP)
- Lead a systematic approach to the development and implementation of technical strategies relating to digital engineering business activities, associated IT systems and supporting elements of security, training and service delivery
- Build and retain strong relationships with customers, partners and QinetiQ colleagues to support the growth agenda through close engagement and understanding of the drivers, future need, industry trends and inter-relationships
- Lead a team of teams from across the QinetiQ UK Defence business and the QinetiQ Group
- Forge strong intra, and inter-company collaborative working relationships to develop highly effective solutions for new and existing customers
- Provide technical assurance, ensuring that all deliverables, includes bids, meet appropriate external and internal technical standards, comply with statutory, regulatory, security, company and project specific processes and procedures, as appropriate
This role is a full-time position based at our Bristol site with flexible working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Deputy Chief Engineer:
- A proven senior engineering leader with a background of working on a range of digital toolset, data management and exploitation, training, synthetic and simulation related programmes
- Experience of UK MOD procurement, CADMID process and recent experience of major UK MOD programmes
- A respected expert in their field with a record of outstanding technical contributions in one or more specialties, sustained high performance in previous appointments (or in an equivalent external technical environment), and technical leadership in one or more business streams e.g. IT product development, DevOps, synthetics, AI/ML, modelling, simulation and data exploitation
- Knowledge and experience of applying Modelling and Simulation to complex engineering problems, Model Based Systems Engineering concepts and toolsets
- Experience of working within the IT sector or other industries where digital Product Lifecycle Management has been undertaken to solve complex engineering problems
- An recognised expert with a broad and comprehensive understanding of future digital engineering concepts and principles
Qualifications for the Deputy Chief Engineer:
- A first degree in Science or Engineering, or an equivalent, nationally recognised, professional qualification
- A relevant professional registration
